You may recall the case of Jaclyn Truman, 30, the Seminole County, Florida, sign-language teaching specialist who had a lesbian affair with a 15-year old girl from Hagerty High School where she was assigned last school year. Apparently the hand gesture skills of the teacher were too much for her young conquest to resist, and the two engaged in a sexual relationship largely at school to the tune of “five to ten times”. You know the sex is magical when the range is that great in the pleading.
Truman quit her job with the School District when word first got out that she was being investigated, but it didn’t help her evade Johnny Law, who swept in and arrested Truman on multiple counts of lewd acts on a child. Or what Truman would call, love.
Truman cooperated fully with the investigation, copping to the encounters, and insisting through her attorney she was stupid and made a huge mistake, but that she was no predator. Hmm. Put that one in your back pocket. It must’ve held some weight with the judge because this week Truman was able to avoid any incarceration time in sentencing on her guilty plea, and rather was given 15 years probation and a first and last name enrollment on the sex offenders’ registry. It’ll certainly be a bummer on your future, but not so bad as a couple years being bullied in the clink. Raising again the specter of gender bias in these teacher on student sexual assault dispositions. Are women receiving gentler punishments?
