Amy Emerald, 42, who may also go by the name, Amy Santos, was arrested this week by Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department and charged with lewd or lascivious acts on a child of 14 or 15 years of age. Subsequent information revealed that the student fingering Emerald, pun intended, claimed she was 15 when the sexual relations with her high school basketball coach.
Emerald was a long-time sports coach employee of Sonora High School in Central California. She was also a graduate of the same high school in the ’90s, where she was a standout girls basketball player. So it was only natural that she would come back to coach girls basketball at her alma mater. First for many years as the girls JV coach, then in 2015 promoted to Varsity head coach.
It’s unclear in what years her sexual assault accuser attended Sonora and played for Amy Emerald. The victim is stated to be a former student no longer at Sonora High School.
Tuolumne County investigators acted on the allegations and following whatever it is they do to conclude there is substantial evidence of a crime, arrested the 42-year old female basketball coach.
The Sonora High School School District leaped into action upon the arrest of their long-time girls’ sports coach and urged caution as the process plays out while assuring everybody they did everything by the book. They still think that will come in handy when the lawsuits come. At least they won’t be fired for cause.
Emerald was booked into County Jail on a $50,000 bond. You might assume that cops are now searching for other potential victims of an 18-year long girls basketball coach. Odds she got the tingles for just one teen girl in all that time — likely very low.
