source The investigation is being led by the Stony Point Police Detective Bureau stems from a complaint logged with the New York State Child Abuse Hotline last month. Between Jan. 1 and Nov. 28 of 2016, Vasquez allegedly started a campaign of physical and mental abuse against her children that included locking one in a closet “several times” as punishment. Stealing a page from the Catholic church — anyone see Spotlight? — the school opted to send Vasquez to another school in the district.

We’re very disturbed by the news,” said superintendent Ileana Eckert. “Our focus today, as you can imagine, is on keeping our schools going as normal as possible, keeping our children safe, and keeping the educational process intact.” In spite of the charges that have been leveled against Vasquez, she is still an employee of the district, and has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the accusations. It’s almost understandable, really. The district has got to work with that pesky ol’ “innocent until proven guilty” thing. If she is cleared, they might wanna keep her away from the Special Olympics.
