You’ve heard of Sleep Juice, right? Typically, that’s whiskey. Just a nip of the ol’ sleep juice (and maybe a little sleepy smoke) right before bed time when you have a cold. But for one Washington state couple, sleepy juice is heroin and it’s for kids!
Ashlee Hutt, 24, and Leeroy McIver, 25, lived with their kids—ages 2, 4, and 6—in a filthy, rat-infested apartment, according to authorities. The place was allegedly rife with drug paraphernalia, including needles and heroin.
Police, who showed up to the home after a friend of the couple tipped authorities off, also allege that the couple would inject their own children with heroin. The eldest child told police his folks would shoot them up with white powder mixed with water. He said they called it “feel-good medicine” or “sleeping juice.” Both pretty decent euphemisms, really. Two of the tested children positive for heroin, while one did not. Unsurprisingly, Ashlee and Leeroy admitted to investigators that they were addicted to heroin. The children have all been placed in foster care.
Oddly enough, The Mirror found a Facebook post form 2014 in which Ashlee berated another local mother, Alyia Iverson, who had been charged in the death of her 2-year-old son after he drank the water from a bong and ate methamphetamine. Ashlee indicated she knew the child, writing, “Finally justice for you, I remember taking you out for walks to get you out of your nasty crib, seeing you not wheeze because you finally had fresh air!”
