Theresa Hawkins-Stephens, 26, makes Joan Collins in Mommie, Dearest look like a decent mother. She was recently sentenced to 18 years to life for beating her 5-year-old son to death and assaulting her 6-year-old son.

Theresa, her friend Rachael Bostian, and Rachael’s mother, Ramona Bostian, had planned to relocate from one area of Ohio to another in search of work. Theresa had two children: Alexander, 5, and Damyan, 6.  The group was camping in the woods when one of the boys was accused of stealing food from the campsite. As punishment, the women wrapped the boys in blankets and sheets and then beat both of them with hands, sticks and belts. This went on for nearly a full day. As a result of his injuries, Alexander died. Damyun was beaten, but survived. Both boys were found to have been malnourished at the time of their death.

The boys were discovered in a nearby motel room after Rachael called 9-1-1. In the recording of the call, she can be heard lying to the dispatcher about what really happened.

“We have a child that stopped breathing. Um, he-we were camping in the woods and he escaped the tent when we were sleeping and he was gone for a couple of days and some kids got a hold of him and messed him up real bad and we didn’t realize how bad it was.”

Theresa was called “deplorable” by a judge who told her he’d personally fight any potential parole the wretch might come upon, which wouldn’t happen until 2031.

The boys’ grandfather, Michael Stephens, said Theresa was never the mothering type. He said that she neglected to feed her children, which he believed she did in the hopes that they would starve to death.

“When that wasn’t quick enough for her, she tried to beat them to death,” he said. He said he had offered to care for the boys many times, but his offer was always rejected.

Ramona claimed that her daughter had access to her social security money, and threatened to kill her and leave her in the woods. This is why, she claimed, she did not intervene and save the boys. She was sentenced to three years in jail. Her miserable daughter, Rachael, was sentenced to 18 years to life.
