Rankings are by their very nature, subjective, temporary, and typically pointlessly argued between adults who quickly turn into children. Having said that, the Brittany Zamora teacher-student sex scandal was probably the biggest of its genre in 2018.
Zamora, a then 27-year old middle school teacher in Arizona, checked off all the boxes for a hot story. Blonde nubile recently married teacher. Sex with a ridiculously underaged boy. Steamy private messages with sex talk and nude photos. A school that seemed to look the other way at her clearly inappropriate relationship. And a massive crash and burn upon her arrest. That’s pretty much all the boxes.
The mere fact that a rather attractive, desirable 20-something grown woman would write to a 13-year old sixth grader in her care: “If I could quit my job and [have sex with] you all day long, I would.” That’s in the epic playbook.
This story had everything. That would include Zamora sexually fondling her very young lover in the back of class during class video watching time, while another boy in the class was charged with being lookout for the illicit pair of January-December lovers.
That kid put it pretty succinctly after the arrest:
“It’s, like weird how a 27-year-old can, like, love a 13-year-old and do stuff. It’s just crazy. She’s not a good person.”Anonymous junior lookout kid
All of this seemed to be happening while kids at the school were openly joking about how Zamora and this sixth grader were “dating”. In a lawsuit filed by the boy’s family after her arrest, they claimed multiple students told the principal himself, he’s your “pal”, that kids routinely saw Zamora and her student holding hands and acting romantic and that the principal essentially blew them off. And this was in the weeks leading up to the first of several full-sexual meetups. You could’ve stopped it, man.
Cut to fifteen months later and Zamora has taken a guilty plea deal. Her original ten counts were merged into three counts which when spoken aloud make little sense: sexual conduct with a minor, attempted molestation and public sexual indecency. Please explain “attempted molestation” in the matter of an underaged boy you fully mounted four times in the back of your car.
Nevertheless, the first charge alone, the big whopper, comes with a sentencing guideline of 20 years. Expect she’ll get less than that, but plenty more than nothing.
So ends the criminal portion of the Brittany Zamora sex with a 13-year-old boy saga. The school and district will be shelling out millions in the next several years to the boy’s family. And assume Zamora will lose her place on the Teacher of the Month wall wherever her bubbly face appears.
